The components of the grinding machine
CHIMERA is a family of moving table grinding machines, available in 3 different sizes.
The sizes refer to the distance between the workpiece head and the internal spindle support (for internal versions) or to the length of the workpiece that can be ground externally with a right-hand grinding wheel inclined at 20° (for the external version).
In the internal or universal version (without a mounted tailstock), the value that characterizes the 3 sizes of CHIMERA is the distance between the nose of the workpiece headstock and the support of the internal electrospindle. This value can be 1000 / 1300 / 1600 mm.
In the external or universal version (with mounted tailstock), the value that characterizes the 3 sizes of CHIMERA is the maximum length that can be ground with a "right" external grinding wheel inclined at 20°, i.e. 500/800/1100 mm.
It is also available in a version with a straight "left" external grinding wheel with a reduction in the length of the grindable piece (300 / 600 / 900 mm.)
In addition to the natural granite base, CHIMERA features linear axes with high-precision recirculating roller guides, coupled with recirculating ball screws and brushless motors with absolute position control. Each unit is automatically lubricated by an electronically controlled control unit.
Universal or rotating workpiece head (customer-selected) with Poly-V belt and brushless motor. Spindle pressurization to prevent dirt ingress, optional rear pneumatic cylinder for automatic tool movement. Morse taper 5 / ASA 5, speed adjustment from 0 to 840 rpm. Optional limit switch for position stop available. Movement of the unit on the table is via a rack and pinion and an air cushion to reduce movement. Maximum cantilever weight 50 kg.
Tailstock with 55 mm diameter quill and 45 mm opening/closing stroke. Cylindrical attachment with removable Morse 4 bushing. Opening and closing is controlled by a lever (standard) or with pneumatic opening and spring-loaded closing via a pedal (optional). The unit is moved on the table via a rack and pinion and an air cushion to lighten the movement. Maximum workpiece weight between centers: 100 kg.
External unit for standard 400 mm diameter grinding wheel or optional 500 mm, maximum width 60 mm, 127 or 203 mm bore. Peripheral speed up to 50 m/s, 7.5 kW electrospindle. Optional automatic balancing with ultrasonic air cutting system. Automatic grinding wheel stop and start at the start and end of the cycle. The grinding wheel can be positioned "left" straight (parallel to the workpiece) or "right" at a fixed angle of 20°. The grinding length data varies depending on the grinding wheel position.
Internal unit for 100 or 120 mm diameter electrospindles, with automatic air/oil lubrication and automatic grinding wheel stop and start at the start and end of the cycle. The natural granite spindle support also includes a spindle geometry adjustment slide for maximum ease of use.
